Alpine Club, London - exhibition

‘Women With Altitude' is a new exhibition running from 8 November to 7 January at the Alpine Club’s headquarters, 55 Charlotte Road EC2a 3QF.

As in so many areas of history, the lives and accomplishments of female climbers have often been overlooked, forgotten or diminished.

This exhibition seeks to rebalance that narrative by showcasing the lives and stories of 12 women climbers through their own words and possessions.

The exhibition will link the stories of these climbers to the present day through a timeline of women’s achievements over the last 100 years, alongside shorter profiles of contemporary female mountaineers.

Alongside biographical displays for the 12 featured climbers, visitors will also be able to listen to audio recordings via QR codes (a smartphone will be necessary for this element of the exhibition). A  combination of traditional exhibition materials, such as artefacts and displays, alongside these interactive elements, will bring these women climbers to life.

The exhibition is being jointly curated  by both the Pinnacle Club and The Alpine Club, two British climbing clubs that have shared close links  in mountaineering and climbing over the past 100 years.
